Whats Under Your Carpets & A Back Saver

Have you ever woke up in the morning or one of your family members and they start sneezing and sneezing and can't stop? You know they have allergies and they take their allergy medications but it doesn't help?  Well, maybe it is your carpet or more aptly what is under your carpet.

As you can see, I have hard wood floors in my home and this pile of dirt and muck is the norm for my house on a daily basis for several reasons:
  1. We use wood to heat the house and it gets bits and pieces all over
  2. I have 3 grandchildren that live in our home 9,9 & 10 (in and out tracking dirt and grass, etc.)
  3. I have a cat
  4. I love having my windows open
My hubby keeps saying he wants carpet because our floors get so cold in the winter time. However, I just want him to insulate under the house and see if that works, if not I am willing to get a nice large rug, but one that can be moved once in awhile to clean under it.

Seriously, I don't care if you own a Dyson/Silver King/Filter Queen or industrial vacuum, they aren't  going to pick the junk up that gets imbedded under your carpet and over a period of years, you and I both know it is nasty and gross and probably the very reason you have allergies in the first place.  But, unless you have a great allergist or doctor, most won't tell you to pull your carpet up!

Lastly if you are getting older like I am, have Fibromyalgia, back, knee or hip pain, taking care of your floors isn't as easy as it probably used to be. Here is one of the tools I use around  my home and that is a tall dustpan.

I don't have to bend or squat down to fill the dustpan or pick it up.  I just stand up, open the pan, sweep in the debris and carry it to the trash where it opens iself and I dump it.

I used to say I didn't need things like this, I could do without them, I was to proud to cave in and now, I am so glad I have this and I use it.  After my second back surgery I realized I can't always have someone by me to bend over and pick up the dustpan, so I got a non-person helpers helper.

So many little things I have purchased in the past few years to help me get through my daily routine.

I know what you mean about having wood floors. We used to have carpet in our home, but because of pets and children we switched to hardwoods as well. It is unbelievable the amount of stuff I sweep daily. I miss my carpet, but don't know if I will ever go back for the same reasons you said. I love the idea of a tall dust pan. Where did you find that?
