We were making their bed today when the oldest asked if I would make her a new pillow case for her pillow & right away she found some fabric in my stash she liked, but instead of me making it, I helped her to make it and for the first time, she did a great job.
As you can tell, she used both hands to guide the fabric and went slow, but she was very nervous about back stitching, so I did that for her.
The end result and you can't see it here very well was a blue striped pillow case with cream striped trim at the opening. I did the trim, but she ironed the hem for it.
Not happy with just one case, she asked me to make another one, so back to my stash pile and she pulled out this peace sign red, white and blue fabric and without her knowledge, I trimmed it with a lace Santa trim and she thought it was so cool!
So today, was a productive day. The house was cleaned for the first time in weeks, I made several pillow cases and now am getting ready to make 2 fresh pineapple cream pies for our church pie auction tomorrow! Yummy! I hope you day today was as blessed as ours was and as creative!

That was a lovely blog, and one your grandaughter will never forget. Did you make the pillowcase were you roll the border and pull through ? I saw this on a youtube and have used some small pieces from my stash and made small bags for giving things away, and for when I lend a book.
Thanks Margaret & no, I hadn't seen that video, will have to look for it & give it a try!
This makes my heart sing! I love it when they use the sewing machine for the first time. And to make 2 fabulous pillowcases!!! They are so fast and easy, pretty soon you won't have any stash left. ;)
I was around her age when I started to sew too! What a wonderful day you must have had, and I have to say that peace fabric is quite nice, and I love the trim!
good for both of you....you are passing on a real gift....
