Quilting Help

Have you even found yourself making a quilt and just not knowing how big the back would be or how much binding you would need? I have listed the appropriate sizes from twin to king and binding and hope this will help all of you that have as much trouble as I once did:

Twin Size

63 x 87

5 ¼ yards backing

¾ yards binding

*for 2 ½” binding

44-45” fabric

Double/Full

78 x 87

**Notice there is only a change in the width and not length**

5 ¼ yards backing

¾ yards binding

*for 2 ½” binding

44-45” fabric

Queen

King

7 ½ yards backing

8 yards backing

7/8 yards binding

*for 2 ½” binding

1 yard binding

*for 2 ½” binding

44-45” fabric

You can also seam or piece your backings. When I first starting, I thought it sacreligious to piece my backs believing they had to be one long piece. But that isn't the case and you can seam them in many ways:

You can piece them length wise with 2 long strips of fabric or even 3 and you can also piece them width wise the same way. I have found that by piecing, I actually have 2 very different looks to my quilts!

Excellent tips. Thank you.

I'm also curious how you figured out how to create a matrix in blogger? Very nice.
