There are so many more experienced quilters out there and I would like to know your opinions for what you suggest for a warmer batting. Living in Washington or even sending quilts to Colorado, I have been using the Warm & Natural or Warm & White batting but they seem to lack the heaviness or warm I am really looking for in a quilt.
I have tried using blankets, bamboo batting, but nothing seems to give it the weight I am looking for. What do you use to give your quilts that added warmth? Is there such thing as a wool batting? I have not been able to find anything like that and the loft batting you can buy don't stay lofty forever.
I guess what I am looking for is that heavy warm feeling you get from an old quilt that was made a long time ago.

There is such a thing as wool batting. It gives a nice drape to the quilt. I'm not sure if it adds warmth to it or not. You could do a couple of layers of batting, I don't know that you can get much warmer than using a blanket for batting though.
Polyester batting should give you a lot of warmth, but maybe not as much weight. One of the first quilts I ever made was a high loft poly, and I eventually had to take it apart because it was TOO HOT!! I have never worked with wool batting, but I'm not sure it will stay together very well during washing. Warm and Natural is a cotton batting, is it not?? Cotton is known to be cool I think because it breathes, where polyester does not breathe.
I never gave it much thought about the cotton batting and you are right it is cooler! Thanks for waking me up!
I think I may use old Army blankets wrapped in a poly batting...thanks for the wonderful comments!
