Helping Others

I am only breaking my week-end blog fast to reach out to those out there who are quilters/sewing diva's and asking you to all think seriously about making a few quilts to send to someone in Texas. Hurricane Ike took many peoples homes and businesses with it when it hit. These people are going to be needing something to hold onto, something to give them hope over the next few weeks, months and even years. What better item to send someone who has lost all than a warm comfy quilt.

It does not have to be fancy, embellished or extreme. It can be simple squares in crib, lap, twin, full or queen/king size as long as it is clean & warm. We can all make one or two and find someone that will distribute them to those in need!

Don't tell me you can't for whatever reason. You can! Get with other quilters you know and all of you make a block, have your church donate batting, a room to sew in, thread, etc. Make a quilt and then before you place it in a box to mail, add some toiletry items, some bandaids, a few items of clean clothing, etc.

The last thing these people want or need is someones cast offs that are dirty, stinky and holey! I have seen what people will send. If you are to lazy to toss it into the trash and you don't want it, what would make you think these people do? Oh, they have just lost their entire lives in a disaster and you think they should feel grateful for your old crap? No, it doesn't work that way, so if you can't send something nice, don't send anything at all!

But, if you would like to reach out and help these people, start with 911 Cares & contact Kevin Willet, they will have someone to send items to or have a truck ready to leave with stuff and it goes to emergency responders in need.

Just because someone remained at their job and stayed true to help others, doesn't mean they didn't loose everything as well & many of them would give their last dime away to help someone worse off than they are.

So, CALLING ALL QUILTERS, PLEASE HELP THOSE IN TEXAS!
