Little Things In Life

As you all know, the closer it is getting to setting up my surgery the more anxious I am becoming. Yesterday was really bad and it just keeps piling up. Like I have said before, I am a type A personality and while I have worked in hospitals over the years, I have had many of my own surgeries over the years, this one will leave me basically unable to do many things I am used to on my own and THAT people, scares me.

God is placing people in my life right now that I can't imagine and they are doing their best to encourage me while warning me that I MUST listen to my doctors, no matter what. I know that, but remember, I am used to helping others and not the other way around.

As I walked in the house yesterday, two incredible things happened.
  1. The phone was ringing and it was a friend who just had the same surgery 6 weeks ago and she was very honest and stern with me. First she said, my entire way of doing things will change, even how I brush my teeth since I won't be able to bend. She was so full of information I hadn't thought of like: get one of those long claw like picker uppers because you will need it, don't over do like you do know when you are having a good day. Place the food in your fridge you will need to reach on the top shelf, get a raised toilet seat with bars, wear slip on shoes and be prepared to lay around a lot. You will be in pain, it is going to hurt, but listen to your doctors and do what they tell you to do. Such great wisdom from a woman who is not only a quilter, but a wonderful Christian woman. The best thing she said is you will need a walker but only for about 2 weeks.
  2. When the mail was brought in yesterday, I had a card from my friend John and it was one of those that just makes you smile and I know he sent it to me to let me know everything will be okay.
  3. People from my church are already beginning to ask what can they do to help.

Today, I am not working, but I am going to be working on the little things around the house, washing the inside of the windows, the sills, taking the kitchen curtains down and washing them and sitting down when I need to sit. If I am going to be in this house as much as people say I am, then I am going to have clean windows to look out of.

After all, it is the little things in life that makes us all feel better!

As a side note, yesterday when I was talking to my friend and telling her how very scared I was, she told me that fear is the devils today and to trust in God. Today when I logged into my Email, my Air One Bible verse for the day was Matthew 10:31 'So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. '

What an amazing God we serve, He sent me a friend to tell me and then confirmed my hearing by sending me this verse! Wow!

when people offer to help, you take them up on it too....Most people are sincerely offering....You have to learn to be the helpee not just the helper.....
