So Strange

Throughout our 27+ years of marriage, my husband and I have been separated at times for a variety of reasons:
  1. Military Duty
  2. Awaiting housing for military duty.
  3. Vacations
  4. Military moving
  5. Civilian moving
  6. Jobs
  7. Medical Reasons

Aside from those, where you have always seen one, you have seen both. It just is and has been the way our marriage has worked. We go everywhere together, we work well as a team, we have worked together on jobs, I have even been to a few bachelor parties because he wanted me with him.

He has always had his fishing, those times when he and our son Justin would take off for days with the boat, camping gear, truck and be gone to a lake somewhere in Arizona. I never knew which one, I just kind of knew the direction they were headed and working in law enforcement as a dispatcher I knew in an emergency how to find them. In many canyons you don't get cell service!

He went fishing and my friends and I had girls nights out or I would spend the time painting or moving furniture where I wanted it, trying a new recipe I wanted to try, getting my nails done, getting my hair done, having a relaxing massage.

Tonight, hubby is out at the dirt track with a friend and I don't care much about that, but since we have never gone to a race without each other, this feels weird, odd and empty in some strange kind of way. Perhaps it is because he is such a creature of habit that every night he has to be in bed by 9:00 that having him not home at 11:30 the house feels strangely quiet (without his snoring) and eery.

Funny, we get into such ruts or comfort zones that something so small like this, just makes us feel out of our element. It is nothing for me to be up at all hours of the morning, but to not have him home and be up, now that feels strange.

Just musing!

That is amusing. When my husband is out, I can never really sleep until I know he is home safe.

That was the other part Cathy, it was high school grad night and many of the roads here are 2 lanes, I was worried, but he came home smiling!
