Just Goofing Around, Free Motion Quilting

I was goofing around this evening and wanted to try some free motion quilting, but not quite ready to do it on my latest quilt and I am so glad I didn't. First, after I dropped my feed dogs, my machine didn't want to sew at all in spite of having a quilting foot on it. Then, the bobbin thread was all knotted.

So, I ripped the stitches out, pulled up the feed dogs, put a regular zigzag foot on my machine and off I went with his oven mitt, just toodling around and around and it went fairly quickly and I had no puckering, or excess fabric. Then I realized, it probably wouldn't hold up with the batting I had used, so I gave it to the kids to add to their repertoire of stuff they use when playing the cooking channel, or store.

Here is a closer look at the design and tomorrow I will do this on my quilt, but make it concentric squares and see what happens!

I really loved this fabric for my potholders, it was bright and cheery! Oh well,, it is a quick project!

Hello friend! Free motion is not easy! LOL! I've just started doing it myself and it definitely one of those things where you have to learn your machines quirks!

May I be so bold to suggest a change in type color? I love to read your blog but I am red/green color blind so its really hard. I feel like a real jerk asking but I want to continue to read and enjoy!

TQ, try it on something smaller like I did! I am trying it on a larger project today!

Machine quilting is not easy. Since I got my Pfaff 4.0 Expression, it has been easier. I love, love the colours you chose.

I am learning this Micki, the biggest drawback I have right now is my sewing stand isn't meant for where it is. Thank you for the nice words!
