Sticky Needle Help

I am attempting to applique a baby quilt and I am using a double layered facing. However, it is heavy and very sticky and I seem to be gunking up my needles and then I can't use them. Does anyone have any better way to sew this so I am not tossing so many needles away?

I also want to know when I am appliqueing, the edges seem to have large holes from the needle will this mess up my quilt? Last time I tried this, my appliqueing fell apart and I don't want that to happen again.

I'm assuming you're using a fusible bonding for your applique? Sounds like Ultra Bond? That stuff is great for items that won't be washed or sewn, but not so good for a quilt. Anyway..... Get some Sewer's Aid - it's a silicone in a small bottle. You can coat your needle with it and it will help, but it will still gum up a bit. I hope this helps some.

Thanks Katie! I am not sure what it is, WalMart had it once upon a time when they sold fabric, now our WM carries nothing! I hope this will last!
