Something to Smile About

Since a little girl, I have always loved Rhododendrons, affectionately called Rhodie's by people who live in Washington and for all I know people who grow these wonderful plants and live elsewhere. They are just beautiful flowers that come in various colors and shapes.

I planted a Rhody bush several months back near my front porch & I have fretted over it, watering it when it was sunny, praying over it when it rained so much I was afraid it would die like the many other flowers I have planted this year have & feeding it.

Yesterday when I pulled into the driveway from an over night trip, this little beauty was welcoming me home. In all its splendor of purple and green and my hubs told me that the hummingbirds have been visiting, so I am blessed.

I do have to be very careful with this plant, as Rhodies can grow to the size of a large tree and be so out of control that they no longer flower. So, I will care and love for this one and continue to work on my little flower bed that brightens my day when I pull into my driveway and helps sustain the hummingbirds.

I love this time of year, the rhodies in Massachusetts are blooming and I take the long way home just to take in all the beautiful flowers. My own have not bloomed yet - we live close to the water so we stay cooler in springtime & consequently we bloom about 3 weeks late. You are right to keep an eye on it - they grow like trees!

Jomaj, we live on the coast of Washington, lots of cold and rain this year, so that's why this one has been slow, not to mention I planted it in March so I wasn't sure it would root at all. They are all over up here in glorious pinks, purples, reds, blues, whites...amazingly beautiful! Thanks for stopping by!
