I Need Help with Darning Foot...Anyone?

So, I have never used a darning foot before and am finding it an amazing way to do scribble quilting...I am working on my grandsons quilt and just felt a free scribbling pattern would be cool. So, I figured out how to place the darning foot on and was doing well.

However, within a few scribbles the top threads are pulling up and looping and very loose. Any suggestions?
I haven't changed the bobbin as it is factory set, but I have tried to adjust the tension and that seems to make it worse.

Any suggestions will be welcomed!

Do you have the feed dogs down? On my Bernina you also have to trun the pressure down from about 40 to zero. On my old Pfaff tension on the top was 0 or 1 to get it right. Also try a Topstitch 90/14 needle.

Thanks Sue. Feed dogs are down, I will try a new needle and tension is on 3 so I will lower it. I don't know about pressure!

I turn my stitch width down to O and I don't do anything else. You should find that it works that way.

Here is a good site

and it takes practice, practice, practice. Hugs

Forgot to say, practice on a potholder or something else before starting a quilt. It's very frustrating to have to take the stitches apart in the quilt.

ok, I am the free motion self proclaimed queen....one of the things that you want to do to keep the stitches even is to run your pedal fast....press it all the way down and move your quilt with your hands slow...It does take practice, that is why stitch regulators are so popular on high end machines..but once you get it, you will have it down forever...make a practice quilt sandwich put on some nice music and put the pedal to the metal and move your hands to the music....If your machine sews a regular nice zigzag and straight stitch you shouldnt have to do anything to your machine........Let me know if it helps!!!!!!
