Gardening

These are my Strawberry plants from last year. I just am so thrilled they lived through our 14" of snow over the winter, our freezing temperatures, the moles haven't eaten them nor have the deer.

Now many of you know I have had numerous back surgeries and have Fibromyalgia, so planting a garden is a bit tricky.  I usually have 3 willing kiddo's that want to dig and get dirty.

Since I can no longer mow my own lawn (it has a 3 to 4 foot drop off on the driveway side) because hubby is afraid I will lose my balance and fall which I have done in the past...we have a gentleman who mows for us.  Trust me when I tell you he was duly warned last year if he took on leaf off my plants I would not be a happy customer.

Friday, my awesome and amazing hubby decided we needed to do something to save our poor lawn guy from fear (yeah I know he is so terrified of me, he laughs at me when he mows) so he went to Home Depot and purchased these stones and red mulch and Saturday he made me this amazing area so my plants are protected from the weed-whacker and lawn mower.  Didn't he do an amazing job?

When he finished protecting those from harm, he went over to my Rhodie bush and did the same thing, which is such an amazing act of love for him, you will never know how much.  Hubby hates Rhodies and things they are a Noxious weed, but because I wanted to have one and I planted it, he is protecting it for me.  I am a bit worried as it didn't really grow very much last year, we clipped the lower branches and stems a few weeks ago to bring it up off the ground, I have fed it Miracle Grow for Rhodies, but not one flower has budded yet.  All my neighbors plants have bloomed already.

I really love that these little borders look so much nicer than the scalloped red bricks everyone seems to use.  These just have a really clean look.  We aren't done yet, you see, I planted a bean plant and cabbage plant on the side of the house and am getting ready to plant a broccoli and second bean plant, they will need protection as well.

We also want to enclose this little flower garden area around our mail box post so it won't get into the grass.  The empy appearing spot in front of the red flowers actually has some plants that have just begun to pop up, so I hope they come in fuller and fill in this area.

My back patio has a topsy turvy with Strawberries and several pots with herbs and veggies that are just beginning to pop up through the soil.  I love gardening, however, since I cannot do it any longer I am so blessed to have a family who will willingly do all my hard work for me.

Are you gardening this year?  I would love to see what your garden is looking like!

oh how I miss gardening...it is one of my favorite things in the world. I am going to try to find a community garden to volunteer in...maybe I will make friends too.
