Christmas Cookie Day

The kids are still all snuggly in their bed this morning, so right after this post, I will be making a batch of homemade donuts so when they get up, we can have breakfast, run a few errands and then come home and bake all day.

I love baking day and so do they. We will get our aprons off the hook in the kitchen, one of the kids will get the bowls, the other will sprinkle us all with a bit of flour and we will have a great day baking and laughing together.

When we are done, we will deliver our cookies and since I can't deliver to all of you, I am offering up this wonderful cakelike/biscuit like cookie my mother-in-law made each year at Christmas. It is very easy to make and has a wonderful Nutmeg flavor and chewiness.

Jamison Cookies:
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk with 3 teaspoons baking soda in the milk
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 1/2 - 4 cups flour
1 cups raisins

Mix sugar, eggs and shortening well. Add buttermilk with soda added, nutmeg raisins and flour. Mix until easy to work with like biscuit dough. Cut into desired shapes. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 450 degrees until brown.

These cookies are just the best and I hope you enjoy them as well as our family does!
