I have been struggling with this word or term for the last few weeks. Not because I am not loyal but because someone in my life wants to force me to loyal to someone else and you can't force loyalty onto anyone, you must earn it.
In 2 Chronicles when Rehoboam's foolishness divided his kingdom he decided to go guns out with the Army and I guess kill his people into submissive loyalty, but no matter how hard he tried, it didn't work. Loyalty, like trust must be earned and if you want my loyalty that means you are going to have to show me it is deserving. You can't go around treating people like slaves, belittling people, using people and then thinking everyone is going to fall at your feet...some will but there are people who will kiss proverbial you know what no matter what the circumstances are! In order to win loyalty you must earn respect with love and kindness.
You cannot force someone (other than perhaps a child or a prisoner) into doing something they do not want to do. You can't treat people like dirt and expect they will continue to be loyal, oh hell no! How can people honestly think they deserve respect and loyalty when they give none back or do nothing but worship themselves? Whats up with that?
If you want me to follow you, you can't just be a leader with force, you must show that I should follow your lead because it is upright, strong, just, fair, kind, respects others. Just because you tell me to do something or you expect to do something...ain't happening.
While I was praying for an answer today,. this song came on the radio and I know who my leader is:

And sometimes people need to understand that even though loyalty to someone is right for them - it might not be right for someone else. God has us all on our own path. And not following the loyalty club in a situation can be much more about listening to what He has for us than it is about the person in question. We are not all on the same walk.
Amen Autumnesf, well said!
