Our Town

Sometimes you just gotta get out and get wet and that is what we did today since the kids had the day off from school. We have these really strange sculptures and art work around our town and the kids have been asking to get some pictures to send to their dad. We planned this all week-end and though it was a drizzle and cold out, we trooped around a few places and snapped away.

This bird? Whatever it is quite a character in the artists mind as well as the legend that is attached to this bird and cage called the Aberbeanie. If you have ever wanted to know how a bird feels being in a cage, this is about as close as it comes I guess. Of course the diva girl fit right into the cage!

As you can see from the picture below diva girl, the oldest got to close and Aberdeanie bit her. What an imagination they have and they were not even concerned one bit with the wet weather. Thats how you roll in the great northwest, go out and get a bit wet or stay in and shrivel up!

There have been some people really doing their best to bring back our little town and make it a showcase town where people will want to stop and shop.

None has done a better job than the man who lovingly restored this towns old theater back to its beautiful glory complete with neon marquee sign, it is beautiful.

What is more, we have had Amy Grant, Styx, Winona and others come to our town and play in this theatre and the owner recently donated $20,000 to a local mom who has cancer. Of course what is an old theatre without the glass ticket booth? This too was restored, however they do not use it and it was open on this day so I took the opportunity to get them selling theatre tickets. Of course, we did ask permission before we entered inside.

It began to pour after this, so our little tour of our town had to stop, but not before they asked for ice cream and the Scoops ice cream stand attached to the theatre.

If you ever get a chance to drive out Aberdeen way and feel you want to stop for ice cream and the shop is closed. Don't give up, walk over to the coffee shop on the other side of the ticket booth and the barista will come over, let you in, let your order and then you can sit at these really cool fountain seats. If its cold take your ice cream back to the coffee shop and sit by the gas fireplace and be warmed!

I didn't have ice cream, I ordered a small Raspberry and White Chocolate Mocha and sat next to the fire with the kids.

You really can't get to know your town until you get out and walk around and while ours is quirky with its odd sculptures and sidewalk stars, it is home at least for now!

Sounds like a really fun day! I love exploring our little town. About a month ago a friend and I met up with our kids for a morning of fun. We all played in the park, ate some lunch, and then packed the kids up for a trip to the library. We played there for awhile and loaded up on books. Then we went for a walk around town. It was super fun and we didn't spend a dime!
