Accomplishing Much

I have finally completed the front of the Pomegranite quilt and I tweeked it and changed it around a bit because after reading all the kit instructions and cutting to their specifications, the pieces came up short. This is the second kit I have ordered that the instructions aren't correct and it really upsets me...but I just made some changes that worked. Making the few changes I did, actually made the quilt a bit larger than the original, so I am happy!

So, today, I will head out to my local quilt shop and find some backing material that matches this and it will be finished by this evening since I have been blessed to have the day off for the first day off in a few weeks. I am enjoying having the windows open today and being able to go out and get some new fabric. I will only get enough to finish the back as I don't need extra. I am still involved in the 2010 Destashing project!

Now that will be done, I will be working on a Christmas quilt from an old 'Stitch 'N Sew Quilts magazine from August 1993 called Brick Streets of Moline & it was created by Carol Scherer.
I could have cut it using the strip method, but I don't think I would have gotten the great mixture I did. It requires cutting 400 2 1/2" x 5" pieces and I cut so many, that I am actually going to have enough to make 2 quilts.
The other fabrics you see are for the orphan quilt project I am working on in Sierra Leone. These are all older orphans and require making twin sized quilts. I would love help if someone out there wants to make 1 or 2 simple quilts and send them my way!
This last picture of the day shows my cutting table as it looks right now. I am sooooooooooooo embarrassed at the utter chaos and mess it is in, but that opens up some ideas for a quick giveaway. So, stay watching, because you may win some stash fabric!

Quilt Magazine Mania

This may not look like much, but it is a huge pile of over 100 quilt magazines and patterns that I have been attempting to organize over the last year. Now that I am unable to do much, I have had the grandchildren place them on the kitchen table and we are going to work together to get these in sleeves and in binders.

As you can see, I have 2 desk drawers chock full of quilting books and more patterns. I really need to have these organized into nice neat areas where I only have to look in one place for something!

It is difficult when our home is so small, but I do believe I can accomplish this by being more diligent in keeping everything in one spot. Of course, if I was allowed to do more right now, it may get done sooner, but at least I can take my time and do a little at a time and the kids love looking through these books and magazines as much as I do.

When it comes to quilting, even the little ones get involved. Diva girl is looking for another pattern so I can make her a new quilt!

Quilts For Sale

I truly do not think you can find a nicer set of quilts for the price I am asking for these two. I have tried to sell them on Ebay without success. They are really soft, come from a non-smoking home and are very cute.
The smaller one is just the right size for using in a car seat, bassinet, as a changing blanket, it measures 21 1/2" x 31 1/2" and is made of wonder flannel as the back and border that is cozy soft. The squares are made of cotton/poly blends which I find last much longer and wear better than 100% cotton.
I accept PayPal and you pay priority mail costs of $8.95. Each one of my quilts is used to help our family be able to help others and I donate a portion of my profits to making quilts for police dispatchers who have a need or a non-profit child related cause.

The quilt you see on the right is called 'Almost Amish,' and I used the same fabrics for this one as I did the smaller one. It is much larger at 32" x 41".

My grandson wanted this quilt for his bed until I told him we were making it to help other children.

You can check out my feedback and ratings at Ebay by looking for oilman85037 and seeing what I have up for auction. I usually have at least a quilt listed and a few quilting books and magazines.
