Support Lakewood PD's Downed Officers Families

The law enforment dispatch department that dispatches for Lakewood Washington Police Department (LESA) has joined with 911 Cares to make the above tee shirts to raise money for the families of the 4 fallen officers.
I do not think there was a community across this nation that did not cry when they heard the news that 4 officers had been shot to death in the same place at the same time. They all left behind children, spouses and family that will need our help.
Won't you be a part of this wonderful opportunity to raise money for these families and let them know you care? The tee-shirts are selling for $18 and between $12 & $15 goes directly towards the fund for the families.
I have made it so all you have to do is click on one of the highlighted areas and it will link you directly to 911 cares. You will not only be showing your support to the families you will have a great tee shirt to wear as well.

Thank You Purple Moose

A Huge Thank You Shout Out goes to Terri over at Purple Moose Designs because today the mailman brought the childrens package from her shop and they were so happy! Terri held a giveaway for deserving young people who like to sew and these 3 little darlins won!

They each won a really great pair of scissors, a spool of Rainbow thread and a magnetic pin cushion which they are already have so much fun with and, I must add they told me I could borrow it when I needed it!

Here is our little man holding up one of Terri's business cards so she can see he loves her shop! He was so helpful awhile back at his Tiger Scout meeting when he was able to help others sew some buttons on because he and his sisters had learned how last summer!

His sister here is trying to hold up the card and her scissors, but unfortunately she has been in an Americans Next Top Model marathon all day and was to busy watching the television.

She loves all the clothes and I am sure she is just thinking of how she can design her own clothing when she gets older!

Next is the oldest who loves science and anything to do with science so of course instead of holding Terri's card up, she had to figure out a way to make it look really cool and scientific, so she placed it behind the pins and let them hold the card up for her!

THANK YOU TERRI AND PURPLE MOOSE DESIGNS!

Just Listed This Jacket on Art Fire!

This is a vintage Levi Strauss denim jacket girls size 7. My granddaughter wore it once or twice and then grew to tall to wear it any longer. With all the work I have into it, I thought I would list it on my Art Fire site.

It has beading around the collar, the shoulders and on the bottom around the back. It has white and gold lace trim at the bottom, a cute metallic dragon fly on the left pocket and lots of ballerina and Barbie stickers on the front.

You can seethe Levi tag in the back of the jacket and you can tell with the brass rivet buttons that this is authentic Levi Strauss.

My granddaughter hand chose all of the embellishments on this piece, so it is definitely 100% diva girl and unique in that I do not believe there is another way just like it anywhere!

The back has cut out fabric roses that are hand sewn to the left back panel of the jacket. There is a purple varigated heart under the back collar, a cut out flower with a happy face in the middle and it is outlined with a raised clear fabric paint. It is finished off with a rabbit, butterfly and teddy bear and you can see the beading along the bottom edge.

A Great Meal For Under $5

I can't say I will always be this dedicated to trying to feed my family on less money, but I can sure tell you that this week has been fun trying and it has made me look at the way I spend money, how I can save money and how I can get the most bang for my buck and have everyone in the family enjoy what we are eating. Unlike Erin Chase, my hubby is a picky eater so finding something he will eat is challenging.

If you think being a CEO is difficult, try being a stay-at-home mom getting people to eat what they don't like, it takes ingenuity and in my case, lots of salt! HAHA!!
I would love to show you what dinner looked like tonight, however, here is what is left and NO, I did not throw the left overs in the garbage. Everyone including my wonderful husband had at least 2 big bowl fulls and the great thing was it was a chicken dinner and my hubby isn't especially fond of chicken!

The recipe was quick and easy and here it is, 'Silver's Savory Chicken and Broccoli Casserole.'

6 ounces egg noodles ( I used an entire bag) (Cost was 79 cents)

3 tablespoons butter (62 cents)

1 yellow onion, chopped (19 cents)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (on hand)

1 1/2 cups chicken broth ( I use chicken bouillon and make my own)

3/4 cup milk ( I used a mixture of evaporated milk and water and the milk was in the fridge)

salt and pepper to taste (on hand)

5 cups cooked and shredded chicken (I bought a pre-cooked chicken Tuesday for $5.99 at Freddies and this was the 3rd meal I used it for)

1 bag chopped frozen broccoli (thawed) (on sale at my local Swansons 79 bag)

1 cup shredded cheese (already on hand)

Bring water to boil, add noodles and cook 6-8 minutes until al dente. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F or 200 degrees C. Grease a 9 x 13 inch casserole dish.

Melt butter in large saucepan or skillet over medium heat. Saute onion until tender about 3 minutes. Mix in flour. Gradually stir in chicken broth. Slowly stir in mild and cook stirring until sauce begins to thicken. Season with salt and pepper.

Place cooked noodles in the bottom of the casserole dish. Arrange cooked chicken in an even layer over noodles. Place broccoli over the chicken. Pour sauce evenly over the borccoli. Sprinkle cheese over the casserole.

Bake in over for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

It was healthy and flavorful and it made me smile!

Antique Lamps

Any of my blogger friends out there know much about antiques or old lamps? I have been searching for information on these since they were given to me a few years back and have come up empty handed.

They are night stand lamps, ceramic with the lamp being beige and not white. When we received these lamps they had cloth cords on them, so I know they are old, but how old, I have no clue.

There are no markings on them anywhere and the roses are raised as is the bow. The bow is a very pale green and the roses start out a pale pink and then get darker.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know, I would just love to know more about these things!

No Slow Learner Here...

I am so happy to say that I learned so much from the wonderful women at conference last week about saving money and I think they would give me at least a B+ for my efforts this week.

The Home Depot bathroom set we purchased for $49.50? Well, take it down sweet things to the total cost being only $39.50 because the mirror just walked out the door, giving me another $10 savings!

Then, I went to Safeway, following all the couponing tricks I had and my bill came to $64.70 and when I was done, I only paid $46.52 not a huge savings, but it was $18.00 worth of savings I would not have had had I not attended conference last week.

All this means is almost taking up another hobby, scissors, baseball card dividers, but it is so worth it. My family loves Maries Creamy Italian salad dressing, but we just cannot afford it at $3.99 per jar. Today it was on sale for 2 at $5 and I had 2 $1 off coupons, so I got 2 jars for $3 which is less than the regular price for one.

I am loving this!

Lets Dance

On the way to the doc yesterday, I had a great radio station on and every song was upbeat which truly picked up my mood and made me happier than I have felt in awhile. When I heard this Josh Turner song, I knew I had to post it here and yes, I have danced to it twice this morning!

Today I Was Busy!

I went to see my surgeon today. She really is a wonderful lady. She walked into the room and the first words out of her mouth were, 'how are those little ones doing?' My grands love her.

When I told her my problems with Neurontin, she told me that stuff can really do strange things to people. Don't I know it. Since I quit taking it, my head isn't foggy and I am no longer afraid to leave the house for fear I won't find my way back!

She believes all the pain I am having is directly related to my Fibromyalgia, she said my scar has healed well, we are doing another Xray to check the fusion and I will see her next month, sans any problems with the Xrays.

From there I got to do some much needed shopping at Fred Meyer and only for the items they had one sale.

At 2:00 I had one of the best interviews and job testing I have had in a very long time and I felt very qualfied but was quickly reminded how much we loose when we are not working with computers all the time.

I passed the typing at a surprising 56 WPM, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, Word and Outlook, though I did not do very well with Outlook. I use it at home for basic Email only. We used Lotus Notes where I worked.

So, they pass my information onto the employer and hopefully I will get at least a permanent temp job!

Another Quilt

This is my latest project and it has taken weeks to get it done, but it is now ready to go to a special person I will probably never meet that lives thousands of miles away in a remote village.
This quilt was made for a blind orphan and I did my best to make sure this quilt had some tactile (relating to the sense of touch) elements in it since the person would never see it with their eyes.

The top of the quilt that is almost a cherry red is silk with embroidered flowers and was donated to me to use for these quilts. The next 4 prints are fabrics that have been in my stash for quite awhile now.

The pink and blue I received in a pink and aqua swap last year. Next is a strawberry patterned print that I have used over and over again and this stuff just seems to always be in my stash no matter how much I use it. The last fabric was a pink and gray print from a reproduction print someone gave me a long while back.

The back was a huge solid piece of another reproduction cotton beige fabric with reddish pink flowers. I was donated years ago this fabric and this was the last piece (I believe) that I had.

I put the quilt together and then double sewed around the edges prior to placing the binding on with a small zigzag stitch and cotton thread.

I used pink baby blanket satin binding because once again, I wanted the person to feel this quilt. I again used double stitching to ensure this would last as I was told these quilts will be washed over and over again.

The inner batting is Mountain Mist's polyester batting and the entire quilt was hand tied on each joining seam, along the sides and in the middles of each piece.

This goes to a large orphanage and I am happy to say, I have one done and I may get a second one completed before the pastor and school director returns to the school of which he is administrator. I would love to tell you where it is headed, but it is going to a country that is full of problems and I do not want to mention this school without prior permission of our missionaries!

Destash Report:
  1. 5 fat quarters used for top

  2. 2 yards backing 72" x 40"

  3. 2 packages satin binding

  4. 2/3 spool cotton pink thread

  5. Mountain Mist Quilt Batting, 1/2 of a double bed size.
Here it is all nicely folded and ready to be delivered to the missionary today at our church.

Thank you Purple Moose Designs

Awhile back, Terri of Purple Moose Designs was having a contest to give away something to a new breed of sewing enthusiasts and that is the young ones. I immediately entered my grands since they love to help me quilt and sew.

Terri notified me they had won and they were so excited. What a special lady Terri is over at Purple Moose, because she is sending the kiddos some pretty wonderful sewing notions. Since they are to young for rotary cutters, she is sending each one of them their own pair of Durasharp scissors, Rainbow thread and a Grabbit pin cushion for them to share!

How wonderful to be able to show the kids how kind people can be!
